Some of them have "Word Stripping" plugins that rip out all the nonsense and styling tags from Word. They do a pretty decent job from what I've seen, except for lists, they just use a * instead of tags.

I had a user try to paste with styles (thanks IE) 125 pages from a word document. The fact that many of the htmlarea's like FCK support pasting from Word makes it worse. The Windows 16 color palette with bold italic +32 size font headings makes for some *nice* pages on your carefully hand-crafted CSS laid out pages.
