I've been doing some research for a while on high-availability solutions for open source databases, and have been evaluating this cluster solution from a company called Continuent:

They have an open source project backing up their software - - but its not quite as tuned as their commercial offering.

They have some compelling technical info, but I haven't tested it in a real environment yet.
