Andover.Net Brings Geek Pride to Boston

Boston.pm is going to be staffing a table or booth at this event.
I will (hopefully) be home by then, but it does sort of sound
like fun.

If anyone's interested in helping them out, you should email
Pudge (pudge@pobox.com) or Elaine (elaine@chaos.wustl.edu).

SAY IT ONCE, SAY IT LOUD: WE ARE GEEKS AND WE ARE PROUD--ANDOVER.NET BRINGS
GEEK PRIDE TO BOSTON

Geeks Unite to Enjoy Weekend of Music, Culture,Technology and All-Out Nerdiness

ACTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 2000--Break out your fanciest
pocket protector and re-tape the bridge on those eyeglasses--the Geeks are
coming to town! Today, Andover.Net (NASDAQ:ANDN), the Internet's leading
Linux destination, announced that it will sponsor the first-of-its-kind
Geek Pride Festival being held in Boston from March 31 through April 1. The
Festival, presented by Andover.Net in association with Switchouse, the
leading online trading community for swapping consumer goods, is designed
to incorporate all aspects of a typical Geek's life--music, culture, games
and technology--into two fun-filled days in Boston, the birthplace of the
Technology Revolution.

Everyone is invited to take advantage of this uniquely Geeky gathering.
This year's Festival promises free concerts, Quake and trivia tournaments,
food, drinks and limitless networking opportunities. Hard-core Geeks can
also take a break from the festivities to attend lectures by uber-Geeks
including Rob Malda, founder of Slashdot , the "News for Nerds: Stuff that
Matters" Website; Alex Pentland, academic head of MIT's Media Lab;
Christopher Locke and David Weinberger, authors of ClueTrain Manifesto; and
Eric S. Raymond, author of the Linux bible, The Cathedral and the Bazaar.

"Andover.Net is a resource run by Geeks for Geeks, so we support this
Festival 100%," said Bruce Twickler, president and CEO of Andover.Net.
"Members of the so-called Geek community are responsible for the incredible
technological advances that we all benefit from in our everyday lives. They
work hard, and they deserve this great party in their honor."

Be There...And Be Square!
>From behind their computers and out of their garages they shall emerge--the
Geek Pride Festival is where the world of Geekdom will collide with the
world at large. The Festival will kick off at 7:00 PM on March 31 at the
Modern Lounge located at 36 Landsdowne Street in Boston (a short walk from
the Kenmore subway station on the MBTA Green Line). Switchouse will be
hosting the Geek Swap Party--the kickoff event where Geeks can enjoy free
food and drinks while swapping music, games, movies, books and code.

On April 1 at the Park Plaza Castle located at 130 Columbus Avenue in
Boston, the Festival will rock on from 11:00 AM until midnight. Scheduled
attractions include:

The Soapbox: Come listen to the Festival's featured speakers, selected for
their geekiness as well as their contributions to the Geek community.

The Soundboard: Jam to live music from cutting-edge bands and electronic
musicians. After the Festival, visit GeekPride.org for free MP3
distributions.

The Arena: Put your geekiest skills to the test in the Stump The Geek
trivia contest and Quake III gaming tournament.

The Midway: Eat, drink, be merry and surf the Web. Become Neo in
Matrix(TM)-inspired Nerf(TM)battles.

Both nights of the Festival will also offer The Peepshow--a midnight movie
showing at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline. For additional
details, please visit www.geekpride.org.

Once Upon a Time...
The concept for the Geek Pride Festival was developed in April 1998. Tim
McEachern, host of the Geek Nation radio show in Spencertown, New York,
decided that Geeks deserved some recognition for all those hours they spend
hunched over keyboards and code. Based on this concept, he organized a Geek
Pride Day in Albany, New York--he wanted to start off small to determine
whether or not the world was ready for an all-out Geekfest. The event was
extremely well received, so McEachern decided that the Geeks needed
something even better. And the Geek Pride Festival was born.

"The Geek Pride Festival is a celebration of intelligence, technology and
great people," said McEachern. "When Geeks get together, it's a real hoot!
I'm looking forward to the Festival in Boston, and hope that we can bring
the party to other technology centers around the United States, and
eventually, around the world."

No Geek Shall Be Turned Away
All Geeks (and non-Geeks) are invited to the Festival free of charge. To
register for the event, go to the Festival's Web site at www.GeekPride.org.
All sign-ups will be entered into a drawing for giveaways including
products and merchandise from O'Reilly, ChickClick, Heat.net, Extreme
Coffee and more.
