What's International Smokeless Barbecue? > > > > Is it bigger than a breadbox? > Does it involve a gong? I was raving about this on IRC a couple of weeks ago, but maybe you missed it. They have gas grills recessed into the tabletops. The grill has a powerful fan in it so that any smoke from the grill is sucked down through little vents before it rises above tabletop level; hence 'Smokeless'. There are a bunch of things you can order. When I was there, I just got the regular barbecue for one. Then they delivered this enormous tray of sliced pork, chicken, short ribs, squid, shrimp, tripe, squash, sliced steak, four pieces of bacon, the end of a red onion, and some vegetable I didn't recognize--taro maybe. Then you grill the food at your table. Also you get a piece of butter in case you want to oil the grill yourself. Hmm, I have a nagging feeling that I left something out of that grocery list. Dinner also includes a salad. And rice. Also access to a salad and condiment bar, so if you want to eat your food Korean style, wrapped up in lettuce leaves with vegetables and bean paste, you can get that stuff at the salad bar. I totally forgot to visit the salad bar because I was too busy stuffing grilled meat into my face. The tray was gigantic. I ate food for about one and a half people and I had to take some home. I actually asked them if they had brought me barbecue for two, by mistake, and they said no, with barbecue for two the tray is the same size but the portions are bigger. Oh, they also threw in a spring roll as a gift. I should mention that this all cost about $14. For the same price you can get a hot pot, where they deliver a lot of food and a pot of hot soup which sits on the grill boiling away, and then you cook the food in the hot soup. For $16, you can get both at once. They have a wide variety of different barbecure and hot pot options, including all-seafood, vegetarian, and so on, and a full a la carte menu of Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. It immediately became my new favorite restaurant, although I have not had a chance to go back since then. The only reason I haven't suggested it for a PM meeting before is because it's on Washington Avenue at 6th St, which is too far away for a regular meeting. But on Saturday everyone has plenty of time to mosey over to Washington Avenue. ------- End of Forwarded Message **Majordomo list services provided by PANIX <URL:http://www.panix.com>** **To Unsubscribe, send "unsubscribe phl" to majordomo@lists.pm.org**
