Last Call--Proposals Due February 9 for
the 2004 O'Reilly Open Source Convention

If you have something important to impart to members of your open
source tribe, don't miss a prime opportunity: propose a presentation
for the 2004 O'Reilly Open Source Convention. (Making a
presentation is a great way to attend OSCON for free.) The call for
proposals closes in just under two weeks. For complete details,
go to http://conferences.oreillynet.com/os2004/

OSCON 2004 happens July 26-30 in Portland, OR. Attended by open
source advocates of every persuasion, OSCON is the perfect place
to recruit volunteers for that important project, share best practices,
or introduce your fellow hackers to cool new tools. The program
committee is particularly interested in topics that address:

- Linux: management, security, administration, configuration
- PHP: Unix, Windows, Apache, and beyond
- Python and Zope: modules, software engineering, case studies
- Perl: Perl 5, Perl 6, Parrot, mod_perl
- MySQL and PostgreSQL: Configuration, migration, data
  warehousing, tuning
- Apache: httpd, Java, and XML projects
- XML: Schemas, Transformations, Software, Services, and
- Applications: sys admin tools, servers, back office utilities
- Ruby: introductions and power user sessions
- Security: Nmap, Snort, Nessus

If presenting a session or tutorial isn't really your thing, there are two
other ways you can help shape this year's convention: send topic
suggestions to oscon-idea@oreilly.com, and take a moment to
answer our brief survey. Be sure to include your email address on
the survey--you'll be entered to win one of two free passes to
OSCON 2004.

Hope to see you in Portland this summer.
