[Philadelphia-pm] Looking for a junior programmer


Hello perlmongers,

    My firm has an opening for a junior (not entry-level, not quite mid-level) programmer.  Please feel free to pass this message on to people who might be interested.

    It is a full-time salaried position in Center City.  The focus of the job is day-to-day data collection, parsing, transformation, and import tasks.  The programming portion is nearly all Perl, with some SQL functions and stored procedures as well, plus the occasional command shell script.

Candidate should have:
  * at least two years of database or data interface programming experience, with at least one year of SQL;
  * two to four years of experience with Perl, preferably in data-oriented applications;
  * at least two years of using Microsoft Excel;
  * knowledge of version control practices; preferably git;
  * knowledge of unit testing practices.

Desired traits include:
  * experience parsing and transforming text data (e.g. CSV);
  * other high-level language experience, e.g. VB, C#, C, etc.;
  * _javascript_ / AJAX / JSON.


    The environment is MS Windows, and candidate must work well with Microsoft Outlook and Windows editing tools, file systems, and networks.

    The candidate must also have the ability to pay close attention to detail; be unsatisfied with errors or discrepancies in raw data, and work to resolve them; be dependable; meet deadlines committed to; work in a professional corporate environment and present self in a professional manner.
