I'm not sure how they'd do on Edgy, but there are 2.2 packages for Ubuntu Feisty: http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?keywords=openoffice&searchon=names&subword=1&version=feisty&release=all If the dependencies don't match, you could edit the debian/control files in each source package and edit them for Edgy's packages. I expect that would work just fine. In general, the Ubuntu Packaging Guide covers this kind of thing reasonably clearly: https://help.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/packagingguide/C. Hope this helps, Andrew Conkling ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug From plug-bounces@lists.phillylinux.org Mon Apr 02 21:31:48 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: historian@netisland.net Received: (qmail 6958 invoked from network); 2 Apr 2007 21:31:45 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO ellesmere.netisland.net) (127.0.0.1) by localhost with SMTP; 2 Apr 2007 21:31:45 -0000 Return-Path: Delivered-To: alias-plug@lists.phillylinux.org Received: (qmail 6924 invoked by uid 107); 2 Apr 2007 21:31:43 -0000 Received: from newmx3.fast.net (HELO newmx3.fast.net) (209.92.1.33) by qpsmtpd.netisland.net (qpsmtpd/0.32) with SMTP; Mon, 02 Apr 2007 17:31:43 -0400 Received: (qmail 25749 invoked from network); 2 Apr 2007 21:31:39 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO moog.netaxs.com) ([207.8.186.46]) (envelope-sender ) by newmx3.fast.net (qmail-ldap-1.03) with SMTP for ; 2 Apr 2007 21:31:39 -0000 Received: (qmail 25224 invoked by uid 1363); 2 Apr 2007 21:31:38 -0000 Received: from localhost (sendmail-bs@127.0.0.1) by localhost with SMTP; 2 Apr 2007 21:31:38 -0000 Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2007 17:31:38 -0400 (EDT) From: schwepes@netaxs.com To: Philadelphia Linux User's Group Discussion List In-Reply-To: <20070330000258.GB594@adidas> Message-ID: References: <808568.77304.qm@web35706.mail.mud.yahoo.com> <703876320703280745y5dfba863x3b68b2491d084e91@mail.gmail.com> <20070330000258.GB594@adidas> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Subject: [PLUG] printer problems X-BeenThere: plug@lists.phillylinux.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Philadelphia Linux User's Group Discussion List List-Id: Philadelphia Linux User's Group Discussion List List-Unsubscribe: , List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Sender: plug-bounces@lists.phillylinux.org Errors-To: plug-bounces@lists.phillylinux.org Recently, I've had to put a Panasonic KX-P1092 back on line because of the failure of more modern equipment. Most of the dot matrix printers can emulate Epson MX-80 or IBM Proprinter models. There should be a set of DIP switches or a printer setup menu to allow you to set the emulation type. The short answer: For the meeting, bring enough (5 to 10) printed copies of your key's fingerprint to hand out to others, along with photo identification that you feel will be sufficient for others to verify your identity. At the keysigning, when someone gives you a printed copy of their fingerprint, determine to your own satisfaction if their photo identification matches the real name on their key. If it does, scribble your initials on the printed fingerprint, and take it home with you. When you're back home, obtain electronic copies of the keys you intend to sign, most likely by downloading them from public keyservers. Confirm that the fingerprint of the electronic copy you've downloaded matches the fingerprint on the printed copy in your hand, then sign the key with gpg, and email a copy of the key with your new signature on it to the key's owner. Some, like myself, recommend taking the additional step of verifying the key owner's email address in additional to their real name. If you'd like to do this as well, the caff(1) utility (available in the Debian signing-party package, or at http://pgp-tools.alioth.debian.org/) can help automate the process. If you have any questions, please let me know. As far as the font size goes, I'll look into it. Currently I'm working on it in Firefox under Kubuntu and Windows and the font is tiny on those platforms. I'll probably make it a bit bigger as time goes on since that seems to be the biggest complaint. Anyway, enjoy. After I finish up the ls program article, I'm going to do a thing on return to libc "smashing the heap for fun and profit" kinda thing. After that, I have no idea. overall, comprised of a great group of people.  It's been a pleasure to have
participated for these past few years.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to see some folks before I go.  I intend to be
at tomorrow night's meeting as usual.  If possible, I'll try to make the
PLUG west meeting this month too.

Thanks,
Mike Joseph

Testing only makes me more discouraged right now. Seems that the original problem is in not the Linux printer connection but in the fact that Star Office does not permit me to strip their .sdw documents into simple ASCII text. Meanwhile, the lpr command of ASCII documents produces text that is only six points high on pages two thirds the size of a real page. Meanwhile, I tried the ASCII and the raw queues that both my Suse 7.0 and Star Office permitted me and got garbage there too but the garbage had the right height for letters and right page length. I tried everything on both the test sample in Star Office and a text document without any graphics. ASCII and raw both seem to have printed leagues of format information for both graphics and text. bs On Mon, 2 Apr 2007, Tom H wrote: > On Monday 02 April 2007 20:12, jeff wrote: > > schwepes@netaxs.com wrote: > > > Recently, I've had to put a Panasonic KX-P1092 back on line because > > > of the failure of more modern equipment. > > > > is this a dot matrix? > > I'm trying to think back [cue wayback music] to my dmp days... At the Chester County Council's 2007 Science Camp (June 24-30), I have signed up to teach Computer Merit Badge, and I plan to do that with Linux (I decided a long time ago that if I was going to volunteer my time, I was going to do it only for free / open source software). We will use live CDs (most likely my own custom remastered version of DSL - http://damnsmalllinux.org). I would like to give each scout - about 100 in all - his own live CD and USB drive with files created in class to take home (and maybe some of them will give their malware infested home PCs a brain transplant). To that end, I am looking for donations of old USB drives. All we need are USB drives that are at least 16MB - we don't need anything fancy, and USB 1.1 would be just fine. 1. If you know any organization (e.g, office stores, IT departments) we can approach for old drives, please let me know (a specific contact would be great). 2. If you have old drives, please delete any files on them and mail them to me (address below). If you want me to, please include a note, and I will gladly use dd to write over the drives with data from /dev/random and then reformat them before I use them. If you want a formal receipt for any drives you donate, please let me know and I will get receipts issued. If you are willing to help duplicate CDs (I will probably finalize them sometime in mid May), please let me know. If 10 people volunteer to make 10 CDs each, we will have 100 CDs. If you are a scouter, and are interested in my curriculum / lesson plans, I would be glad to share them (they're still evolving). Thank you very much, in advance, for your help. I used the web site information from the box and search site got me a blank screen. The NCR product number was 151344 and the Fullmark, N228bk. Could not raise fullmark's site. Tried Staples and Office Depot and even Target who sells it on line but not through the stores. bs ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug From plug-bounces@lists.phillylinux.org Sun Apr 08 01:54:33 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: historian@netisland.net Received: (qmail 442 invoked from network); 8 Apr 2007 01:54:30 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO ellesmere.netisland.net) (127.0.0.1) by localhost with SMTP; 8 Apr 2007 01:54:30 -0000 Return-Path: Delivered-To: alias-plug@lists.phillylinux.org Received: (qmail 407 invoked by uid 107); 8 Apr 2007 01:54:28 -0000 Received: from adsl-207-245-72-170.cust.oldcity.dca.net (HELO mawode.com) (207.245.72.170) by qpsmtpd.netisland.net (qpsmtpd/0.32) with SMTP; Sat, 07 Apr 2007 21:54:28 -0400 Rece
