I don't think Septa runs trains all the way out to West Chester
anymore. There's a station in town but last time I drove by it was
deserted. Your best bet is probably to take the R5 from either Exton
or Paoli, or the old West Chester line from whatever's the end of the
line now (Elwyn?). You can find schedules at www.septa.org.

Whichever train you take, ride it eastbound towards downtown Philly
and get off at 30th St. Station. Steinberg-Dietrich Hall is about a
20 minute walk from the station. The simplest way to walk is to head
west on Market (away from Center City) 6 blocks to 36th St., then turn
left. You'll cross Chesnut, Sansom, and Walnut Sts. 36th becomes
pedestrian-only after Walnut as it enters Penn's campus. Continue one
more block to Locust (that's the main pedestrian walkway through
campus) and turn right. Steinberg-Dietrich Hall will be the big
building on your left.

You can save yourself a little time by cutting diagonally through
Drexel and then entering Penn at 34th and Walnut. You can also take
the Subway-Surface (the "green line") west from 30th St. to 37th.,
which is practically right outside Steinberg-Dietrich. If you can't
find it when you exit the station, just about any passer-by should be
able to point you in the right direction.

One thing to be aware of in taking the green line is that one of the
lines (there are 4 or 5 lines that follow similar routes through
University City) doesn't stop at 37th. It's been a while, but I think
the line to avoid is the #10.

Good luck!

Walt
