It remains to be seen whether they'll actually release it, or just wait for the second-generation version ("McKinley") developed by HP. My guess is your cow orker is thinking about the Monterey project, a collaboration with IBM, SCO and Sequent. They're developing a new Unix-like OS combining AIX, UnixWare and Dynix. They'll also port some parts of AIX to UnixWare to run on IA-32 machines.
