Re: [Plug] Pro Unix Colleges

Last weekend I installed LinuxPPC on my 300mhz blue-n-white, and it's not half bad. I don't know much about Linux benchmarking but it completes a SETI work unit in 11 hours (versus 19 hours under Mac OS 8.6).

Not that this is relevant to colleges, but at least it's Linux-related :-)

You're not going to believe this (and I know, it's getting off topic --
last message, I promise), but I publish a 48-page, full color magazine
with national circulation almost entirely on - you guessed it - an iMac.
I should probably have gotten a G3, but I needed a new system and was on
a budget at the time, so...

All in all I have to say I'm very pleased with the little guy. I don't
use it for anything but design, but when I do use it I find it
remarkably stable and a very useful tool.

If I *really* needed a bigger screen, pro-level color matching, etc. of
course I'd get a G3 with a better monitor.

Anyway...
