In most of the other groups to which I've belonged, this was a clear sign that the meeting would be "roundtable discussions". Don't know if that would work with this group or not, but it's not a bad option. We could have book reviews. Everyone try to review a technical book that would be of interest to the group. The books wouldn't necessarily have to be Linux-specific, something on TCP/IP or security or a programming language would work. And it wouldn't have to be a "book report" kind of thing -- just prepare to speak for five minutes or so and answer any questions anyone might have.
