Okay, I'm concerned. I've experienced hard drive crashes & power outages... but this time my computer decided to just randomly reboot itself at 5:08am ?? darxus tty8 Thu Nov 25 06:16 still logged in reboot system boot 2.2.13 Thu Nov 25 05:08 (01:13) darxus tty6 Wed Nov 24 21:46 - 23:16 (01:30) darxus tty5 Wed Nov 24 20:59 - 23:17 (02:17) darxus pts/1 207.106.241.14 Wed Nov 24 12:12 - down (16:53) darxus pts/2 207.106.241.14 Wed Nov 24 11:06 - 12:09 (01:03) (The last 2 are me from work) It's like I rolled over on the ctrl-alt-del keys in the middle of the night. That's actually seriously my best guess right now. (my keyboard's on my bed) This is disturbing me (enough to have me up at this time of morning concious enough to post email). In /etc/syslog.conf, one of the lines is: *.* -/var/log/syslog.all In /var/log/syslog.all, it says that at 05:06:33, my machine decided to switch to runlevel 6. According to inittab... grep "level 6" /etc/inittab # Runlevel 6 is reboot. At 05:08:09 it started booting. Nov 25 04:42:49 darxus tcplog: socks request from WINGATE-AND-PROXY-CHECKER.for.irc.core.com Nov 25 05:06:33 darxus init: Switching to runlevel: 6 Nov 25 05:06:37 darxus sshd[328]: Received signal 15; terminating. Nov 25 05:08:09 darxus kernel: Linux version 2.2.13 (root@d-bm4-2b.ppp.op.net) (gcc version 2.95.2 19991019 (prerelease)) #1 Sun Oct 24 22:10:28 EST 1999 I included the socks request from my irc server just to show that the line before the runlevel 6 was unrelated -- that socks request is pretty normal. So what does it look like ? a ctrl-alt-del ? a shutdown -r now ? btw, in my /etc/inittab: # What to do when CTRL-ALT-DEL is pressed. ca:12345:ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -t1 -a -r now I think that would shutdown instantly without logging that it was switching to runlevel 6, corect ? I definately did not roll over on my keyboard & accidently hit "shutdown -r now". I guess I'm going to have to try rebooting my computer a few different ways to see what the logs look like. Argh. I'm going to try to go back to sleep now.... __________________________________________________________________ PGP fingerprint = 03 5B 9B A0 16 33 91 2F A5 77 BC EE 43 71 98 D4 darxus@op.net / http://www.op.net/~darxus Find the next largest prime, be famous: http://www.mersenne.org/prime.htm _______________________________________________ Plug maillist - Plug@lists.nothinbut.net http://lists.nothinbut.net/mail/listinfo/plug
