Here's the problem. I get a lot of mail. Fortunatly I use procmail to sort it all. The only downside to it is I only get notified when mail arrives in my default mail spool. Recently I became irritated enough to look up the solution. Now, when I get mail in any of the files I specify, I get a custom message. The solution was quite simple and can be found right there in the bash manpage. If your shell isnt bash, this will probably not work for you. Check your documentation. The fix is as follows. Set your MAILPATH. Mailpath is a list of files followed by a message, separated by colons. Like this: MAILPATH='/var/spool/mail/mental?"Mail for Mental!":~/mail/IN.plug?"Mail on the Plug list!"' export MAILPATH There's also a MAILCHECK setting that sets how many seconds apart to check the files. All in all, its pretty nice. I seem to remember someone here asking how to do something like this for mutt. Well, here's the answer.
