Yes you can do a WHOIS on the domain
You can go to http://www.nsi.com or in a shell do a whois -h
whois.networksolutions.com domain.com
You will see in the record something like this:
Record last updated on 20-Mar-2000.
Record created on 13-Aug-1999.
Database last updated on 4-Apr-2000 13:51:57 EDT.
