Check out AMANDA... (www.amanda.org)
We've been using it here for quite some time now, with excellent
results. It is designed for multiple machines, but will work just as well
with one. The frontend for restoring files (granted, restoring from tar
isn't difficult) is extremely logical - it allows you to tag specific
files, choose which date you want to restore them from, and tells you
which tape it wrote that file to on that date. Very nice when you've got
a big tape rotation and alot of machines, but equally as nice when you've
got a single machine...
