I'm just wondering if there is an issue with structure alignment, if you've
got (say) a double that's not aligned on an 8-byte boundary or something
like that.  It's a guess, based on the error messages you said you received.
You aren't running a client on a 16-bit machine, are you?  Or have you
recently installed/changed a firewall or something?
