RE: [PLUG] cheap boxes? really?

A guy across the street from where I live (he's a HW guy) says he can build
a machine with 800mhz Athlon, 128MB RAM and decent size HD for around $500
without monitor. So yeah....you can do it if you look around for the best
price in parts. Good MB will run you under $200, case w/ps around $35, HD
around $130 and memory around $120 or so.

Subject: [PLUG] cheap boxes? really?

The news has been all aflurry the last year of various $200 - $300
intel boxes running linux. Does anyone know how to buy such a thing?
I'm looking to buy a new box, doesn't have to be 1 GHz or anything,
just trying to do it cheaply if I can. I figure I'll still have to
spend a couple hundred adding enough RAM for my tastes, but I'm
wondering if I can really put together a machine for $500 or so once
I'm done. Without spending days researching all the details and going
all over creation to do it.

As an aside, I'd love to be able to recommend a source of cheap
machines to friends.

Anyone know where these supposedly cheap linux boxes can be had?
