Hey: Check the CPU support for the A7M266, I am not sure it goes to 1.33. I like the Iwill KK266 for a DDR Athlon board. It's going for $107 on pricewatch. I think the sweetspot for athlons are the 1.2 gig Thunderbird for $102 or the 1.2 gig Palomino for $234. Check www.anandtech.com for some recommendations. Can't go wrong with the SBLive. Crucial memory is great. I love PCP&C products. What about storage? Any new hard drives? Www.storagereview.com. More to follow....;-) Bob -----Original Message----- From: Darxus@chaosreigns.com [mailto:Darxus@chaosreigns.com] Sent: Tuesday, July 10, 2001 8:59 PM To: plug@lists.phillylinux.org Subject: [PLUG] please comment on my new computer specs Looks like I'm finally building a new box to replace my p2 233/128mb box. I haven't been keeping up on hardware, but I've gotten some input from friends. I would really appreciate input on this system - I'll probably order everything tomorrow. asus a7m266 motherboard, newegg.com, $172 athlon 1.33ghz, 266mhz bus cpu, newegg.com, $135 sblive value sound card, newegg.com, $40 2x 256mb ddr ram, crucial.com, $49.95 each pc power & cooling 350w ps, pcpowercooling.com, $96.75 Lian-Li pc12 black case, thinkgeek.com, $174.99 MC370-BLA Heatsink + 38cfm fan, crazypc.com, $41.98 Going to use existing voodoo 3 3k video card for now. Not worrying about cdrom yet. Have keyboard & mouse & monitor & hard drive & network card. Total: $760.62 (+shipping) The functions of this box will be primary workstation (linux) + lan parties (games) (mostly windows). The power supply is approved by AMD for the 1.33ghz athlon. DDR ram is like, fast or something. Considered the 452w power supply, but that's an extra $82.35. -- http://www.ChaosReigns.com ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug
