this is true for kernels < 2.2.16 (or so) and it's a problem i've seen. Booting from the drive is not the problem, getting lilo to write to the MBR of hde seems to be. i don't see a command to force it write to the MBR of any particular drive. :( -----Original Message----- From: Mike Leone To: plug@lists.phillylinux.org Sent: 9/5/01 2:01 PM Subject: Re: [PLUG] LILO HELP I seem to recall from the Mandrake mailing lists that you need to pass parameters to kernel during boot (at the "lilo>" prompt, letting it know to use hde. At least, that's my vague recollection from others, who wanted to boot from Ultra/66 cards. Something about telling it hde uses .. whatever .. IO ports that it uses. :-) Sorry it's not more help. ----- Original Message ----- From: "William Shank" <wshank@mbcnet.com> To: <plug@lists.phillylinux.org> Sent: Wednesday, September 05, 2001 1:47 PM Subject: [PLUG] LILO HELP > I'm trying to move my /boot from a partition on hda to under the / of hde > and boot directly from hde - which the Ultra/66 card supports. > > I tried to write lilo to the hde0, but still looking for the /boot on hda, > then switching my bios to boot from add-on card first. that way if it fails, > i can switch bios back and still boot. > > well that didn't work. can someone give me some pointer on how I should go > about doing this? > > thanks > > > ______________________________________________________________________ > Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org > Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce > General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug > > ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug
