 i figured out the problem - which was with me, not the software. i had
opened a gif and wanted to add text to it, but before you can do that you
must change the gif to RGB colors, so it can add the colors for the
anit-aliasing.

Huh. That's the same version I'm running, and I don't even see an
anti-alias switch in the text insertion dialog, but the text I type
is definitely anti-aliased when inserted.

What font are you using?

What are your settings in the text insertion dialog's "Filter" tab?
