Prospective Employers like certifications, but not everyone has the time or money to sit for the latest, greatest certs from MS or CISCO or SUN or IBM. Brainbuzz and Brainbench have purchased a lot of the older exams and test books and have make them available for IT professionals to prove their worth at reduced costs and less study time. Tests you pass are viewable on the web, and prospective employers can see your long list of certs and see that you know what you are talking about - that you have command of the things on you have claimed on your resume. I think these tests are self administrered, so you might be passing them "open book" but still, it is often hard to fake understanding even in open-book timed tests. A long list of certs from one of these companies is often considered the same as the 5 (?) MS tests for MSCE or MCP. Anyway, this is what I read in a article last year, probably in PC World. P.S. For jobs, I know that there are several Data Center Ops Mgr jobs requiring UNIX when I and other AS400 search for jobs. Go to JobCircle.com, look upAS400, and just about every Data Center Ops job there requires AS400 *and* UNIX too.
