Might want to check out Interscan VirusWall -- http://www.antivirus.com/products/isvw/default.asp. I've used it in sendmail (Solaris, but they have a Linux version) environments, and it has been very effective. Automatically updates its definition files, so its fairly maintenance free. My only issue with it was that it doesn't update its engines automatically, and there wasn't (at the time I was using it, at least) a mailing list or anything that would notify you when new engines were released -- the only case in which anything leaked through it was when there was an updated engine and I hadn't installed it yet. Its not free, though. I think its licensed on a per-user basis (or per email address).. not really sure what the costs are, but I think I paid around $3-5k. I think there are similar free apps (AMaViS?), but I haven't used them. - Sean On Thu, 21 Feb 2002, Mike Leone wrote: > > Just out of curiosity (well for my education actually), are you referring > > to a virus scanner that protects a Linux mail system from passing along > > windows viruses or a system primarily designed to detect Linux > > viruses? I believe there was a proof of concept virus for Unix once, but most Unix security issues are either holes, buffer overflows, worms or Trojan horses. Not self-replicating things like viruses. > > > > > ______________________________________________________________________ > Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org > Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce > General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug > > ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug
