Are you thinking about VNC?

I know I have it running under Linux here using both XDM and in shared screen
mode. The coolest part about it using XDM is that I can connect to my linux
box and get X with MacVNC. Its not as fast as X but it is very usable on a
LAN. I can even share X in 640x480 - 8bit over my DSL and it is pretty
responsive. Not "I can watch mpegs responsive" but responsive enough for me
to fire up KMail and type an email with no strange lag.

Cheers

p.s. If anyone is interested in what it takes to get VNC server to use XDM let
me know... I found the docs on the web are sorta out of date and need some
tweaking.
