[PLUG] EMU10K1 and recording audio

I'm using a soundblaster live card on RedHat 7.2 with their stock kernal and I have no problem playing audio using the EMU10K1 driver. The issue I'm running into is I can't record anything on either of the inputs...Mic or Line. I recently switched to the non-free OSS drivers to see if that would fix anything and to get their improved mixer for the SBLive card and so far it doesn't seem to be helping (I haven't paid for it yet).

Since the device can't even be accessed to record here's my issue, I think...what device in /dev is the input for this card???

It seems that most sites say /dev/dsp1 is the input but it's not. I'm using the command line tool "record" and getting the error "device or resource busy" (or something like that...I'm currently not on that machine) when I use any of the dsp devices. Trial and error has led me to realize that the input might be one of the /dev/audioctlXX devices under non-free OSS since this at least opens the device successfully before producing an error.

Anybody have experience with this card and recording? Also, what programs are people using to record audio from the Mic or Line input to disk? I'm trying to work my way up to one of the multitrack programs for linux so I can record music on the machine and totally be free of Windows but I want to get the basics working first.

Thanks,
