[PLUG] Time Matters Newsletter (fwd)

This is going to be a big boost to the Linux user base an, perhaps, a boost to Linux consulting.

Time Matters is an extremely popular case managment package in law offices. I've heard many lawyers claim that the Windows-only status of Time Matters is the only indispensable windows software preventing a total switch to Linux. (Many still use Word Perfect, so that's an easy switch.)

TIME MATTERS ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER 05 APRIL 2002

TOSHIBA AND TIME MATTERS JOIN FORCES FOR LOW COST ALL-IN-ONE SERVERS

Since you will soon see this on the front page of Law Technology News, we wanted to be the first to let our customers know (see "Toshiba Cozies Up to Time Matters, Linux" April 2002 http://www.lawtechnews.com). Time Matters Software is teaming up with Toshiba to offer a low cost line of "all-in-one" servers. Beginning in the 2nd QTR 2002, Time Matters will be available on the Toshiba Magnia SG20. The Magnia SG20, which is currently available without Time Matters, is smaller than a VCR, but it has the power
and ability to create a local area network (LAN) and Internet access for an entire law office. The Magnia SG20 is a total prepackaged system with Linux provided firewall, file/print sharing, Internet and printer gateway, web caching, content filtering, backup, e-mail services, remote administration and Linux operating system, all at a low cost. ANNOUNCING TIME MATTERS ON LINUX

The Time Matters Enterprise and World Editions use advanced Client Server database technologies. Historically, Time Matters Client Server technology was based exclusively on Microsoft SQL Server 7/2000 (MS SQL). Using MS SQL also required using Windows 2000/XP Server and Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS). Time Matters Software is expanding the Client Server options to include Oracle, Sybase, PostgreSQL, and more.

The first alternative to MS SQL to be released will be Linux-based PostgreSQL (http://www.us.postgresql.org). PostgreSQL is based on the Berkeley Client Server (SQL) technology and is open source and free. Using Linux-based SQL technology allows use of a Linux Server and Linux-based Apache Internet server. Also, since the Time Matters e-mail system can replace Microsoft Exchange Server for e-mail, Time Matters customers now, for the first time, can use a total Linux-based Server for the Enterprise and W
orld Editions.

One significant effect of the Linux option is to significantly reduce the non-Time Matters costs for Time Matters Enterprise and World Editions. Using Linux there is only minimal software cost for SQL, the Network Server, Internet Server, and E-mail Server. The cost for Time Matters remains the same for both MS SQL and Linux SQL versions. The Time Matters Linux Server option will be available 2nd QTR 2002. Oracle, Sybase, and others will follow shortly thereafter.
