Subject: X Display problem
X-Authentication-Warning: oblivion.chaosreigns.com: Host h000.c003.snv.cp.net [209.228.32.214] claimed to be c003.snv.cp.net

I am emailing this message to you because my previous messages keep getting
bounced as spam.

I have installed woody_3.0.18-2001-12-21 with kernel 2.2.20.
I was not able to get X working with xFree86- 4.1.
I downloaded, installed, and configured  xFree86 4.2.0 without incident.
However, I can get a stable display at 640x480 but higher resolutions are
stable for a few seconds and then the screen goes black. This behavior
recycles until I terminate X.
I tried changing the default depth from 16 to 8, but this made had no effect.
Can anyone suggest a solution or point to a reference that might provide a
solution?
