>Well in my experience before, placing the cdburner and the hard disk >together on the same ide ribbon does appear to "hang" the computer; Same thing happens if you put a cd/dvd drive and a cdburner on the same ide bus and try to do a disk to disk copy. This is highly recommended against and will most likly cause buffer underruns. The same is most likly true in the above case w/ the HD and cd-r on the same bus. To fix this problem, switch one device to the other ide bus (make sure that your booting HD is still the master of ide bus 0 [the primary ide], etc, etc, etc). No, I do not know why this is a problem, I just know that it can be (especially if the comp is a couple years old, I used a P3 550 that had this problem and it is 3 years old). Also note that if you switch around disks, you may have to change entries in the fstab (and other confs that save the location of the cd-drive). It _may_ no longer be the same hd<#> as it was before. -brad ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug
