Depends on the data style you're doing.

CSD  - 9600 bps - billed by minute, same as voice
GPRS - 56k - billed by amount of data transmitted

On VS, you can get a 5MB/mo GPRS allocation for $20/mo or 20MB/mo for
$40/mo.  I use the 5MB plan, but usually only do compressed SSH sessions
or visit the WAP version of my webmail application from my iPaq...
