hmm.  before the install, "fdisk /mbr" was run from a dos floppy, to
wipe that clean - then during the install, "install lilo to mbr" was
chosen.

what exactly is a disk labeling error?

yes, we've tried running lilo, and lilo -L upon someone else's
suggestion.  no luck.

i'm attaching the output from fdisk -l /dev/hda and also lilo.conf.
