Re: [PLUG] spoofing off subject

Search around on freshmeat.net for hotmail and you should find a few packages that can emulate a pop3 or imap server while grabbing the mail from a hotmail account.
Hotmail doesn't allow regular pop/imap access, but outlook express uses their goofy HTTPmail protocol which is a hack of WebDAV to talk to hotmail. Since people figured the protocol out, there have been a number of progrmas to do the conversion.

I had good luck in the past with gotmail, but it looks like the maintainer is busy recently and suggests Hotwayd

It's moments like this that I remember my animus against Bill Gates.
I'm the one who saw how much his boys cost the Philadelphia school
district while he was harping on the need for education.

How do you telnet into a hotmail account? I have a friend who wants to

You can only send email using SMTP, you can't retrieve it (unless it's delivered to an SMTP daemon on your local machine). I was just talking about telneting to port 25, which just lets you make deliveries to an SMTP daemon.

Your friend wants to retrieve her email from Hotmail on another
system using a POP3 or IMAP4 mail user agent. fetchmail is probably
what she wants, provided that Hotmail allows you to retrieve mail
using one of those protocols. I have no clue whether they do or not.
Another option would be email forwarding, provided Hotmail offers
that.
