My biggest stumbling block was that I had gotten used to the RedHat/Mandrake/etc gui simplified(dumbed down?) installs that do good things with autodetecting. Once I worked through (and it was work) configuration, debian is very sweet. I hear Libranet is easier on the install and it has all the benefits of debian. Progeny would help too. In fact, you even don't reboot at all after you boot off the CD-ROM (they must monte[1] it or something) -- I certainly wasn't expecting that. :) Autodetects a sane X configuration and all that. Pretty spiffy installer, all in all.
