Can anyone here offer any recommendations for open source Point of Sale
systems or works in progress?

A potential client has a need for a system that would use magnetic stripe
cards to debit the users' pre-paid account as purchases are made. Expensive
closed-code commercial systems abound, but I'd like to explore open source
alternatives.
