I have been using MySQL for nearly 3 years and SQL for over 10 years. MySQL is a strong
RDBMS for web programming, using Perl, PHP, C++, etc. Which book you use depends on
where your head is at and where you are going. If you want to build a career interest
in application development, you should tie your learning of MySQL with a programming
language and learn some things about RDBMSs in general, including normalization. If you
already are experienced with a programming language try to build with that so that you
can concentrate on the MySQL usage. If you are starting from scratch I'd recommend PHP
for web work and C or C++ for other applications (I'm a bigot that way).

I am currently a technical editor for Wiley Publications, so of course I'd recommend
their books. _MySQL/PHP Database Applications_ by Greenspan and Bulger is a good one.
