Make sure Apache (httdp) is running. Run /usr/bin/setup, go to Services, and check to see if httpd, smb, and swat are enabled. Also, if you used the default settings during install, you will have an iptables firewall running which might block calls to Samba. Less likely if you're on localhost talking to localhost. Use some basic commands to make sure you can connect to the Samba server from localhost. smbclient -L //localhost smbclient //localhost/homes Don't forget to add a user. smbpasswd -a username Eric Alexander wrote: I am very new to Linux and I'm trying to get Samba working on Red Hat 8.0. I've followed the instructions that I've read in a couple of books, but I get an error on my browser that says "Could not connect to host localhost (port 901)". Does anybody have any suggestios of what I can try? Like I said, I'm very new to Linux, so let me know if you need more info.
