Re: [PLUG] back to laptop sound configuration

I know this might not be the answer you're looking for, but I usually don't waste too much time trying to configure sound under Linux. For a reasonable price you can just purchase very solid working drivers from www.opensound.com Especially with laptops where you can't just swap in a new soundcard I think it is worth the $20-35 to avoid the hassle plus they support things not in the free OSS...I have a NeoMagic chip in my Dell that had horrible support when I installed Linux, it may be better now though but I've been really happy w/ the non-free driver.

>From their site...

The price of the OSS drivers includes the following services:
    Unlimited FREE technical support for 1 year.
    Unlimited FREE upgrades to newer versions of OSS for 2 years.
    Free upgrades when you install a newer kernel
    Free upgrades when there's a newer version of OSS

Well - I'm back to trying to get sound on my old laptop I believe I need
the opl3sa2 module for my Yamaha soundcard. The farthest I get is
repeating a half-second of any sound.

Anything else I can try?

-john

I picked IRQ 7 but any other IRQ doesn't seem to work any better:

# cat interrupts |grep Sound
  7:          2          XT-PIC  MS Sound System

# lsmod
Module Size Used by Not tainted
opl3sa2                 7392   0  (autoclean)
ad1848                 18176   0  [opl3sa2]
mpu401                 18688   0  [opl3sa2]
sound                  52620   0  [opl3sa2 ad1848 mpu401]

#cat devices|grep sound
 14 sound

>From modules.conf:
options adlib_card io=0x388
alias sound-slot-0 opl3sa2
post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L
>/dev/null 2>&1 || :
pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S
>/dev/null 2>&1 || :
options sound dmabuf=1
alias synth0 opl3
options opl3 io=0x388
options opl3sa2 mss_io=0x530 irq=7 dma=1 dma2=0 mpu_io=0x330 io=0x370
