Chances are, during your installation, you said that you wanted the firewall to be active, and that is what is blocking your access right now. You can edit the firewall settings (ipchains) and allow telnet access from remote. Firewall settings should be under the System Settings menu somewhere... don't have the 8.0 box running right now so I can't check.
