I believe those are the six virtual consoles. They respawn to wait for 
new connections.  They always exist.  I'm sure someone will come along 
to explain why they are persistant.

As you noted, remote logins close completely.  Xterms also close completely.

My advice would be to not worry about it as far as there being a 
problem, but it never hurts to learn more about what's going on in the 
shadows.
