[PLUG] Interesting piece of spam

Sorry for further spreading a piece of spam, but I thought that it was a
clever promotion of unix/linux services by pointing out that the recent
worm getting a lot of general media publicity only infected microsoft
products.

Re: New Computer Worm Virus - Info you should know!

As you may have heard from the news media, a horrific new computer worm began spreading in the early hours of January 25, 2003. It has paralyzed hundreds of thousands of servers world-wide.

What is it called?
------------------
The worm is known by a number of names, including W32/SQLSlammer, W32.SQLExp.Worm, SQL Slammer Worm, and DDOS.SQLP1434.A.

What does it do?
----------------
An infected computer will continue to send out packets to other systems, spreading itself and rendering the target computer either useless or degraded, and sometimes inaccessible.

Which operating systems are affected?
-------------------------------------
The worm infects computers running Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) 2000 on any of the following operating system platforms: Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Me.

What can you do?
----------------
Microsoft has released a number of security bulletins (MS02-039 and MS02- 061).

Symantec has released a fix (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sqlexp.worm.removal.tool.html) that incorporates Microsoft's patch to prevent future infection. Use this link if you are proficient with your server skills otherwise contact your webmaster for assistance.

What can you do to prevent it from happening again?
---------------------------------------------------
This outbreak is another good example of why you should know which operating system your data center is using to host your web site(s). If they are using a Microsoft based solution then your business may be prone to similar worm attacks for years to come! How much longer can you afford to play Russian roulette with your business?

Where can I turn to for help?
--------------------------------
Now may be a good time to move your web site(s) to a more secure data center environment that relies on UNIX and Linux based proven solutions. There are many to choose from. If youd like to consider ours please click on the link below.
