Okay, I misread what you wrote, and understood you to be suggesting that one put a drive only as *slave*, with no master, on an IDE bus. I think we can probably agree that that can't work. However, I still say that there's no problem having IDE drives on a primary IDE bus and booting off of a SCSI device. I know this because *I* do it all the time. If you BIOS is too dumb or too old for a "SCSI" there should be a "peripheral" setting or something similar.
