I can confirm that I have had similar hardware smp/aic7xxx as well as similar crash messages. So I can confirm this. I have updated the kernel (rh's latest) and things are going well. But things were ugly for a while. I have read that smp/aic7xxx/ext3 don't play well, somewhere on the kernel mailing list. I think that the latest patches iron those bugs out. We have not had a problem since upgrading. I upgraded again to 2.4.18-24.7.xsmp and we have really nice uptimes. Good luck with this. It can be hair raising.
