I think he's talking about shared folders in Outlook. Sharing folders in
Samba is easy enough.

alternative to that on linux is kind of painful. Anyone with any

Roaming Profiles are quite easy to set up using Samba. By Public Folders are you refering to folders on a file server that are accessible by all or shared Outlook folders?
