Re: [PLUG] Zaurus users?

I have the 5600. It is a really great machine. It has almost replaced my laptop in usage. The battery problems were worked out, and I get about 4+ hours surfing the web, d/l, and typing up documents. I bought a wireless card and SD chip, and store all my important data. I have had one lockup where I couldn't log in, but it was quickly resolved with a reset, and nothing was lost.

I have 5500 and it is pretty cool. I only sync it with my W2K work
machine though. Recently I've been ripping movies using mencoder on
debian (if the MPAA is listening I own the movies...not that that really
matters to them) to watch them on my Zaurus using TkcVideo by theKompany
and a 256mb flash card. You can actually get close to 2 90 minute divx
movies (15 fps,around 150bps,32k mp3 at 320 x 240) in that space because
they need to be small enough to not skip on the slow processor of the
zaurus and overall they aren't too bad. TheKompany writes some nice
apps.

Basically it is an OK machine and a little more fun to play around with
then a palm pilot but the battery life is horrible. I may try to mod my
5500 to fit the 5600 battery but then again I may just wait until the
C700 comes out in the US this summer...but it will probably be way too
expensive. I've played around a bit with writing some python apps for
mine but nothing too serious.

Oh, just as a heads up...don't upgrade the 5500 to the new 5600 ROM yet.
Sharp says it works but it is causing all types of trouble from what
I've heard with a lot of apps.

There are tons of user sites for the 5500. I'd add some urls here but
our Groupwise gateway will probably format the whole email as html
if I do that.
