The usual problem with an IR keyboard is that it has the port on the
"front" and expects you to be pointed at the receiver, i.e. the

at the TV while the Computer is behind you (or in another room).
I'm assuming that the MythTV box would be up front by the TV, so the IR
orientation would be correct.
