There's the clue. Having a few of these older gateways and misguidedly trying to upgrade them (ends up costing more than a new machine), I have learned that these older motherboards were topped off at about 128 MB, usually. Then, you find out that the old processor also becomes a bottleneck for running newer stuff that requires that much more memory, anyway.
