I'm pretty sure I've sucked it up and wrapped Perl around generation
of a gnuplot input file every time I've wanted to do anything that
complex. (That is, I don't think that gnuplot provides a
sufficiently complex interface to do that, just a bunch of
primitives.) But that's without looking at the documentation
(especially since I'm sure you already did that).
