Re: [PLUG] Delayed unexplained ACPI state toggle

This was discussed a little at the Aug 4th PLUG meeting Q/A. Does anyone
recall who brought it up? Was this a Windows or Linux thing?

This seems to have just happened on one of my L-user's Windows laptops. A
message come up saying his BIOS was out of date - he okayed passed it. Since
then the machine boots almost all the way up, BSOD's with something about an
ACPI BIOS incompatibility btwn hardware and OS, then repeats. (Yeah, the
Windows OS part of this post is off-topic, but is this a OS non-specific
hardware thing, something that happened to somebody's Linux box who spoke to
it on 8/4//2004, or ?) The bios version on the no-longer-working machine is
the same as the version on working machines, and the one link on the HP site
dealing with Compaq BIOS downloads is bad!

Boot with Knoppix to see what happens. If there is still a problem, try flashing the BIOS, or whatever you do with a crappy Compaq. Or, as a test, switch off ACPI in the BIOS. Also, try booting into safe mode. And check the boot log for failures.
