.wav is a wrapper around the data (much like .avi files) and you can specify
things like odd bitrates and codecs, etc.


Like the original poster suspects, it probably is a codec issue; if it were a
bitrate problem you'd hear chipmunks or other pitch-shifting weirdness.
(can you play other .wavs? or just some audio formats?)



Hey, do you know of a utility which will expose the details of the format?
