RE: [PLUG] Modem Problem

I'm not sure of the codes, but do you need to enable hardware flow control on the modem,
and disable flow control on the linux side? This way the two modems can negotiate a
consistant speed.

When I tried minicom I got:

/dev/ttySO access failed: no such file/directory.

In rereading...at first I thought the ttySO was a mistype from the screen to the email
but the error message that minicom is giving might be because of the ttySO (oh, vs zero) ttyS0.

Subject: [PLUG] Modem Problem

Hello,

I have Fedora 2 on a Gateway Pentium III and an using a US Robotics 56K Fax modem (model# 5686) but I cannot connect to

the internet. I tried to configure via KPPP and the Internet Wizard but was not able to.

I know the following:

            1. the modem works since I use it on my dell with Win XP

            2. dmesg indicates: “ ttyS0  I/O at 0x3f8 is a 16550A”

            3. wvdialconf detected modem

                        /dev/ttySO, speed: 115200, init “ATQO V1 E1 SO=O &C1 &D2 +

                                                                                    FCLASS = 0

I edited a vwdial.conf.new and copied it to /etc/wvdial.conf.

At root typed wvdial and got the following:

WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.53

Initializing modem

Sending: ATZ

OK

Sending: ATQO V1 E1 SO=O &C1 &D2 + FLCASS = 0

OK

Modem initialized

Sending ATDT<215-701-9814

Waiting for carrier

ATDT<215-701-9814>

Waiting for carrier

…..

Timed out

When I tried minicom I got:

/dev/ttySO access failed: no such file/directory.

I’m not sure where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
