To give my two cents. I my wife just purchased the 12" powerbook from
microcenter at a highly reasonable price(my opinion). Not the fastest,
but more than suitable for its purpose. I find just shrinking the
toolbar down a little and then auto hide does the trick nicely. Act now
and they will give you a coupon to upgrade to tiger for 10 bucks.
My only want for this item is to add more ram.

That sounds like a good deal. I've never delt with them before but I
thought I'd chime in since a good deal was mentioned. If you decide to buy
one call around to the non apple apple stores and ask what they can do for
you. You can usually get free stuff tossed in. They can't reduce the price
much do to contracts but you can definately make it a better deal.

Right now, I would wait until after Monday ... Apple's WWDC starts then -- World Wide Developer's Conference.

Since Macworld Publishing moved MacWorld East to Boston and Apple dropped
out of participation, Apple has been making Product Announcements,
at things like WWDC and Seybold. (I forget if Jobs Keynote is Monday
or Tuesday morning.)

Plus, according to the rumor mill -- Apple is dumping the PowerPC and
switching to Intel. Supposedly Intel made Apple an offer they couldn't
refuse. Intel is apparently in such bad shape from competing with AMD
that they offered Apple a deal where Apple could have as many chips as
they wanted at half the price Intel charged their current lowest price
customer.

[And if you believe that, I have shares in a bridge you might be interested in.]
