unless of course, you keep XP, install linux as a dual boot, since the system has a 80gb drive. And use the AOL per month. Then the system is still 350.00, plus the AOL charges, which if you use the AOL, you would have paid anyway (assuming of course broadband is not being used), I assume that in the sense if your looking for the cheapest PC around, I doubt you will be able to put out an additional $50/mnth for broadband, although DSL would be close in cost to AOL, not all areas can get DSL, which is an issue in itself. I don't think compusa will sell you a machine with monitor and printer with 80gb and 256mb ram and XP (Doesn't say you can't dual boot this system) for 350.00 Looks like they are using Open Office for their "office" George -----Original Message----- From: plug-bounces@lists.phillylinux.org [mailto:plug-bounces@lists.phillylinux.org]On Behalf Of Malcolm J Harwood Sent: Wednesday, September 14, 2005 1:58 PM To: Philadelphia Linux User's Group Discussion List Subject: Re: [PLUG] OT: Hardware wanted On Wednesday 14 September 2005 01:33 pm, George Gallen wrote: > http://www.globalcomputer.com/AOL-PC/index.asp > > It's XP and requires a 1yr AOL contract @23/month > but it's 200.00 with a monitor and printer billed in 3 payments. > looks to be about $50.00 shipping charge to NJ FYI If they're running linux, the don't need AOL, and the total above comes to $476. Even CompUSA will sell you a machine +monitor for less than that. :-/ I'm not sure if $500 qualifies as "limited funds". -- Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves. - Carl Jung ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
